The Rumah Pohon Bali Treehouse has become one of the most recognised tourist spots in Bali, with photographers, bloggers and creators flocking to Nusa Penida to get their own version of this iconic shot.
Whether you want to create content or you’d just like to see this famous spot for your memories, we’ve made this complete guide to the famous Nusa Penida treehouse. Keep reading to find out the best time to visit, how much a photoshoot is and what to expect.
Best time to visit the Bali Treehouse
For the best photos at the Bali Treehouse, you’ll need to visit at sunrise. The treehouse is located on the east side of Nusa Penida, at the Thousand Islands viewpoint. Only the most dedicated make it to the treehouse for sunrise, so not only will you have the best lighting for photos but it should be relitavely quiet as well.
We had been battling with the weather during our Nusa Penida trip, so we never made it for sunrise. We found the lighting challenging as we arrived late in the afternoon, not to mention there were a lot of other tourists.
How to get to Rumah Pohon
The best way to get around Nusa Penida is by scooter – this island is just not made for cars. Most accommodations will be able to arrange a scooter rental for you, and if you hire for multiple days you can usually haggle down to around 60,000 IDR per day. If you’re not comfortable driving a scooter, a popular option is to hire a car with a private driver.
The treehouse in Bali is found at the Thousand Islands viewpoint, a popular attraction near the famous Diamond Beach. You can find it on Google Maps and there is plenty of signage the closer you get.

Entrance Fee
The entrance fee for both the Bali treehouse and the Thousand Islands viewpoint is 10,000 IDR. You can purchase food and drinks near the entrance, so you might want to bring some change for that.
In addition to the entrance fee, you’ll need to pay 75,000 IDR if you actually want to take photos of Rumah Pohon. If you’re thinking you can put on a zoom lens and sneakily take photos of someone else to save yourself a quick buck, you’re out of luck. The area is closely monitored. When you compare it to the swing at Diamond Beach though, it’s really not that bad.

Staying At Nusa Penida Treehouse
It is possible to spend the night at the Nusa Penida Treehouse, but don’t expect anything glamorous. The beauty of the Nusa Penida treehouse is the unbeatable view that you won’t find anywhere else in the world. The facilities are slim to none, but who needs a shower when you have that view? If you don’t mind roughing it for the night, you can book the treehouse in advance on Agoda.
What to expect at Bali Treehouse
You’ll arrive at the Thousand Islands viewpoint parking lot at the top of the hill, pay your entrance fee and pre-purchase your ticket to take photos. From there, it’s a short walk down to Rumah Pohon Bali treehouse.
There are a few treehouses all in the same spot, but there is only one famous treehouse. Rumah Pohon boasts the best view of the Thousand Islands. You won’t miss it, as there will be staff there to help you take photos.
We spent 15 minutes or so taking photos at the Bali treehouse before we moved along for the next photographer/model couple. If you’re travelling alone, the staff can help you set your photos up.
We continued our journey along the path and up to the Thousand Islands viewpoint. The view here was seriously stunning, overlooking the most beautiful blue water and a small section of Diamond Beach in the distance.
