SECRET CAVE IN SIARGAO: Epic Adventure With No Tourists in Sight!

Secret Cave Siargao

In all our time in the Philippines, this has got to be one of the most bizarre adventures we’ve ever been on. Not just because we found a secret cave in Siargao, but also for the fact that we were shown the way by a group of children, in the pouring rain, with no idea what to expect.

If you’ve seen all the must-visit spots in Siargao and you still have some time left, you definitely need to add this secret cave in Siargao to your to-do list!

HOW TO FIND THE SECRET CAVE IN SIARGAO

Our journey to the secret cave in Siargao started at Conseulo Elementary School, just past the turn off for the Siargao Wakepark. The location for Consuelo Elementary School on Google Maps is wrong, so you can follow the below map instead.

Our local friend Djee found this cave and offered to guide us, which is the only reason we knew it existed. We could attempt to give you directions, but our best advice is to get a local guide. You can get in touch with Djee on his Facebook page here.

We had to walk through the elementary school to the rice field out the back, which is how we inadvertently picked up a group of young boys on their lunch break. They had been to the cave before and knew the way, so they were excited to join our adventure. It’s not every day you hike to a secret cave in Siargao with a bunch of 12 year olds, but such is life here in the Philippines!

After around 30 minutes of pretty slow paced walking through rice fields, bananas and coconut trees, we made it to the final hurdle. The secret cave in Siargao sits atop a steep incline of thick tropical rainforest, but we all managed with just a few scrapes and slides. We recommend dressing for the occasion, which we did not. Flip flops made it a slippery climb, worsened by the torrential rain that came out of nowhere.

OUR EXPERIENCE AT THE SECRET CAVE IN SIARGAO

15 minutes later we made it to the secret cave in Siargao. The entrance to the cave is pretty big, and very… well, cave-like. There were plenty of bats and stalactites, and remnants of campfires were proof of local visitors.

The cave actually goes deeper through a tunnel at the back, however this is where our adventure was cut short. Coiled up on a rock at the entrance of the tunnel was a huge black snake, just having a snooze. The boys and Zowie ran screaming, and the snake disappeared from its spot. Since we weren’t sure where it was hiding, we ran out of there like bats out of hell. Pardon the pun.

The secret cave in Siargao is a must-visit for anyone craving a little raw adventure outside of the regular tourist spots. It’s a shot trek and we had plenty of daylight left to explore other areas of the island.
