SIARGAO’S SECRET WATERFALL: CAPTIVATE FALLS

Siargao Secret Falls

When you hear Siargao, naturally you think of big waves and late night raves. But there’s more to Siargao than meets the eye. You might find it hard to believe there’s such thing as a secret spot left on Siargao, what with its thousands of tourists every year. We thought so too, until we tracked down this hidden gem that only the locals seem to know about. On the west coast of the island in the town of San Benito you’ll find a secret waterfall in Siargao, Captivate Falls.

It might already have a name, but that’s about all there is to suggest there’s a waterfall here. No sign posts, no flags, you won’t find it in any tourist brochures. When you ask someone how many waterfalls there are on Siargao, they’re likely to tell you there’s just the one, TakTak Falls. But they’re wrong. With its close proximity to the road side, we can’t believe this has stayed a secret waterfall in Siargao for so long.

GETTING TO THE SECRET WATERFALL IN SIARGAO

If you’re travelling from General Luna, it’ll take you around an hour to get to Captivate Falls. If you punch in the coordinates in the map above, it’ll lead you straight to the secret waterfall in Siargao. Park on the side of the road and head inland. You’ll find a fence, but it has an opening so you can just walk right in. You’ll see the small creek almost immediately, and from there it’s only a few metres to the waterfall.

The biggest waterfall and the best swimming spot in our opinion is the middle level, but the bottom level also has a great little swimming hople. There are three levels of waterfalls, so make sure you keep walking upwards to reach the very top. The water is super refreshing, clear and you’re likely to be the only people there, like we were. There were a few signs of past visitors, suggesting it’s probably a local hang out spot on weekends. If you want it all to yourself, we recommend going on a weekday.

Siargao's Secret Waterfall

Since this is a secret waterfall in Siargao, there’s no one designated to clean up after visitors, and there are no trash cans. Please do your part to keep the area untouched by taking your trash with you as you leave. We also recommend bringing insect repellent since Zowie got eaten alive by mosquitoes.
