There’s nothing quite like having zero expectations for a place and getting blown away! That’s how it went down at Herbs Guest House Moalboal. We’d heard nothing about it but were invited to dinner by our airbnb hosts, so we happily obliged. It turned out to be one of the best meals we’ve ever had in the Philippines, served up by two of the friendliest people we’ve ever met.

WHERE IS HERBS GUEST HOUSE MOALBOAL
Herbs Guest House is tucked away in the back roads of Tongo Point, just a little out of the way from the bustling Panagsama Beach (if you consider a 10 minute drive out of the way). It’s in the quieter part of town, but is well worth venturing out of the busy tourist strip if you appreciate delicious food and peaceful vibes.
THE FOOD AT HERBS GUEST HOUSE MOALBOAL
Let’s get stuck into it then. The food at Herbs Guest House Moalboal was nothing short of spectacular. We ordered two of their bestsellers – Chicken stuffed with feta cheese on fresh tomato sauce with fried potatoes and Pork tenderloin on gorgonzola cheese with potatoes and side salad. This was the kind of meal you’d expect in the big city at a fancy restaurant, not little old Moalboal.
What made each dish particularly special was how fresh the ingredients were. For things that are somewhat uncommon in the Philippines, like cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms, we were genuinely surprised by the freshness and flavour. It was only ₱750/$15 USD for the both of us, not bad for some of the best food we’ve ever had.
Our friends ordered the homemade pasta with gorgonzola cheese and bacon, as well as some good old fashioned chicken wings. Since they keep going back to Herbs Guest House Moalboal and ordering the same things, it’s safe to say it must be good.
The owners of Herbs Guest House Moalboal are a lovely Filipino and German couple who have spent a great deal of time in Indonesia, Malaysia and beyond, cultivating their love of food. Their experience abroad is why the menu at Herbs Guest House ventures beyond typical Filipino cuisine.
STAYING AT HERBS GUEST HOUSE
Before Herbs Guest House was ever a restaurant, it offered affordable accommodation to travellers. The pandemic gave the owners a chance to not only open a restaurant, but renovate their rooms. It’s hard not to notice their focus on repurposed wood, native design and eco-friendly fittings.
